Fourth industrial model for Veolia Water Technologies.

This model of Veolia’s new Orion Purified Water Treatment system is the fourth project we have completed for this major international company. Built from the engineering drawings, the model is extremely accurate and shows all the significant working components of the system to an easily identifiable level. The client plans to ship the model to overseas trade shows so we designed it with internal steel supports bolted to the underside of the base so that it could withstand frequent shipping. We also supplied a custom made aluminium flight case with a tailored internal foam cushion lining.

“The model looks amazing. You and your team should be really proud, certainly exceeding our expectations.” This was the response from the client on receiving the first photos of the finished model. The client was just as pleased when the model actually arrived in their offices in Dublin and very quickly confirmed a new order for a model of one of their other developments which we will start working on next month. It’s fair to say we were really proud with how this model came together, particularly as we had to work in a different way to comply with socially distanced working. This involved a mix of working from home and staggered shifts so that we were able to maintain a 2m distance in the workshop. We are also very used to working with masks so when necessary we were able to have more than one person working round the model at the same time.

They’re like busses!

You know how it is, you don’t get a warehouse model for ages then two come along at once. We’d only just started our previous very large warehouse model when this project came in from a completely unrelated client. Although this building was a lot smaller, the overall spec was very similar in that it too had to have a cut-away roof to show the internal automated pallet retrieval and return system. Because the building was smaller we were able to use a larger scale than the previous project (1:200 instead of 1:300) which allows us to show a slightly higher level of detail for the internal components – and made them marginally less fiddly to produce!

1:50 Floor Plan Layout

The purpose of this 1:50 scale floor plan model was to provide an "at a glance" explanation of the various apartment layouts on a typical floor of a large apartment complex. Showing indicative furniture and fittings in rooms and highlighting the communal areas, the 3D representation makes the internal spatial arrangement easy to understand for potential purchasers.

Two more industrial models – Sub-sea control module & Ukube Satellite.

Not all the models we make are scaled down to a smaller size. These two industrial models are both life-size replicas of the real thing. The subsea control module is about 900mm square and was commissioned because the client wanted a lightweight version of the product to take to exhibition venues. The real unit was extremely heavy and difficult to transport whereas our lookalike version, made from thin plastics, could be easily lifted by two men. The Ukube satellite model, made for the UK Space agency, was unusual in that the original satellite was only about 350mm long so there was no need to scale it down. We’ve actually made four of these satellite models with possibly more to follow. They’re used for educational presentations and were made with working hinges so that the solar panels and antennae could be deployed in the same way as the real thing.

Bangor University New Building – Scale 1:400

One of the main purposes of this model was to demonstrate how this major new building addresses a complex, steeply sloping site. It was also used to illustrate the scale and massing of the new development in relation to the existing university buildings and the surrounding townscape.
