Plasma Power Station Model – Scale 1:250

The brief for this project was to create a stylized representation of this power station building that could be packed into a travel case and taken as hand luggage on international flights. This meant the overall dimensions of the case had to be no bigger than 560 x 450 x 240mm. The only way this was possible was to make the model in two halves that stacked back to back inside the foam-lined case. The chimney stacks were too tall to fit so we designed them to be unscrewed and packed flat during transit.

Retail Display Unit - Scale 1:20

When there isn’t the budget for a full colour, realistically detailed model, sometimes this monochromatic, white styled approach is a viable alternative. At 1:20 scale, this model is only 150mm high but with clear acrylic shelves and a matt white general finish, it provides an instantly understandable 3D representation of the unit. We’ve even been able to show the fine perforations in the curving roof panel.

 Half Mini Display

We created this half Mini as the final piece of an in-store green energy display for a large Garden Centre/DIY chain. The model is actually a mock up of an Electric Mini and illustrates how electric vehicles can be charged at home using a standard off-the-shelf charger, available in store. If you look at the image on the left you can see where the cable plugs into the vehicle via what would normally be the petrol filler cap. Apart from creating the vehicle we also had to organize and apply the specially designed vinyls. The client was really pleased with the finished result, particularly as we’d had to rush to get it finished before the bank holiday weekend deadline. As a final point we’d like to just add that this is the first and only time we’ve ever done half a job!

Country House Redevelopment - 1:150 Scale

Occasionally a project turns out to be much more complicated than expected and this was certainly the case with this model. The development comprised a group of holiday villas based round a refurbished and extended old country house set in a steeply sloping and heavily wooded site. The main problem was the lack of accurate information about the original building (much of it had to be created from photographs) and there was only limited information for the complex levels across the site. The various designers involved (architects, landscapers, etc) were still developing their detailed designs but the client needed a model in their marketing suite ASAP. By liaising with all the parties involved we were able to build the model pretty much at the same pace as the designs were evolving. The completed model has also helped the client identify several areas for improving the design and we’re expecting it back in a couple of months for updating.

Vets Practice - 1:25 Scale

For this project the client, a chain of vets, wanted a portable model that showed the typical internal layout of one of their newly built practices. We suggested this 1:25 scale stylized model because it offered plenty of recognizable internal detail but was easily transportable at only 800mm long. Rather than have a removable roof, we made the roof panels out of clear acrylic to allow easy viewing of the internal detail (this also keeps the dust out). Whilst it is predominantly a white stylized model, we added highlights of realistic colour to add extra visual interest.

Third sales model this year for major UK house builder.

This is the third sales model we’ve produced this year for one of the UK’s biggest housing developers. We’ve been supplying high quality sales models for their marketing suites for over 12 years and have another very large project for them booked in later this year. An important feature of this site was the sloping topography which had to be very precisely modelled so that the gardens with retaining walls and steps could be accurately represented. 2.2 metre high model of navigation buoy.

A company that produces and maintains navigation buoys around Britain’s coastlines asked us to produce this quarter scale model of one of their standard buoys for use at exhibition events. At 2.2m tall it had to be made in sections that could be packed in flight cases for shipping but that could be easily assembled on site. If you click on the main photo above you can see the full extent of the model. To add some extra visual interest we came up with the idea of mounting it on a clear Perspex tube to give the impression that it was floating.

Two 1 metre long models for Finnish client.

We’ve produced many different satellite models over the years and recently completed two identical 1m long models for a client in Finland. The models have three removable hanging hooks because they’ve been designed to hang above an exhibition stand at an upcoming event. In one of the inset photos you can see how we used clear acrylic angle brackets to support the solar panels which weren’t strong enough to be self-supporting. The models were packed in two flight cases strapped to a pallet and arrived safe and sound in Finland last week.

Detailed models of three historic sites.

Back in 2021 we completed three models of megalithic tombs for a Heritage Centre in Northern Ireland (see Recent projects – May 2021) and they were so pleased with them they came back to us for three more models which we’ve just completed. As you can see from the photos above, they were three very diverse sites; a ruined church, a disused Water Mill and a landmark Cairn but hopefully we’ve captured the spirit and character of each of these three historic sites. All the models had to be interpreted from very limited information, chiefly consisting of images from reference books in conjunction with current site photos.

Detailed model with extending fold-down ramp.

At 1:25 scale this model of an aircraft boarding system was only 450mm long but as you can see from the photos we were able to include plenty of realistic detail including scaled down branding and and even a fold-down ramp. The finished model also came with a clear Perspex cover and a foam lined transportation case.
