Bridge Model – Scale 1:12

The object of this model was to illustrate the advantages of the client’s product, a quick to install, combined kerbstone/drainage system specially designed for bridge constructions. The model had to be made to this large scale (it’s 2.5m long) so that the functionality of the design could be instantly understood by the viewer. Click on the Enlarge Image feature and judge for yourself whether it does the job. The display was actually commissioned for use at a trade exhibition in Saudi Arabia. This meant we had to design it so it could be flat-packed into a purpose-built flight case and still be easily assembled by the client on site. We also steered the client towards some very nice, off-the-shelf 1:12 scale cars which he bought himself and placed on the model to bring it to life.

Pouring Teapot – Scale “oversized”

This slightly surreal model showing an oversized teapot frozen in mid pour into an oversized teacup presented a number of technical problems. The heavy looking teapot had to be made very lightweight so that it could be supported by the pouring column of tea. The “tea” element of the model had to be sculpted and cast as a separate unit (in tinted clear resin) that would fit into the cup and into the spout of the teapot. The cup and saucer had to be weighted so that the whole model would be a freestanding unit. This was just one of a series of half a dozen different models for a huge multi-national company. The models are to be used as eye catching 3D displays in support of marketing promotions within the company’s main branch offices. They may be required in large numbers if the promotions are rolled out worldwide.

Saint Petersburg Marina – Scale 1:750

One of the most significant features to note about this masterplan model for a proposed marina development in Saint Petersburg is the high level of detail that can be achieved at this very small scale. Not one of the buildings on this model is more than 35mm tall. And just for good measure and for added impact they all had to light up at the touch of a button. The model was built on a very tight schedule and shipped off to Russia (in a purpose-built flight box) to be used the centrepiece of a major presentation.

Trident Missile – Scale non-specific

At 2 metres tall this model of a Trident Missile is certainly not life-size and we were unable to establish the exact dimensions of the real thing, hence the “Scale non-specific” comment above. Made from a combination of fibreglass and plastics with a painted finish, the model was designed for use as an eye-catching display at exhibitions in the UK and abroad. Because it had to travel we supplied it with a purpose-built protective flight case.

Vertically “Exploded” Model – Scale 1:150

For this project the client wanted a model that would demonstrate the internal layout and main circulation routes of their proposed new offices. We came up with this solution of vertically “exploding” the floor plates (supported on clear acrylic rods) so that the room layout on each floor was clearly visible. With clear labelling of all the main spaces the model is, in effect, a simple, three dimensional diagram that the viewer can easily make sense of.
