Model creates focal point for marketing suite.

When we delivered this model to the on-site marketing suite the client was really pleased to see how much of the architectural character of the buildings we’d been able to represent. The model was at 1:200 scale and showed phase 1 comprising three refurbished and renovated buildings in full detail and phase 2, three new-build apartment blocks, in simplified massing form. Fully detailed phase 2 buildings will be added at a later stage. If you click on the photos to enlarge them you should be able to fully appreciate the high level of detail we can achieve at this scale.

Another high quality marketing model for national house builder.

A major part of our work involves producing sales models for housing developments and this is the latest off the production line for one of our regular clients, a national house builder for whom we’ve created dozens of models over the last 15 years. Typically these types of housing models are at 1:200 scale but because this was a large site with over 350 plots we had to drop down to 1:250 scale to keep the model at a manageable size for the sales office. If you click on the two smaller images to enlarge them you’ll see that there is still plenty of recognisable detail at this small scale so that customers get a clear appreciation of the house and garden they’re considering buying. The model is still awaiting some final details like cars and figures which will be added once the client has checked the model over.

Illuminated model for horse therapy product.

The client for this project wanted an eye catching model they could use as a promotional tool at an event in Saudi Arabia. They wanted to showcase their product, a vibrating floor system, in a typical high end stables setting and asked us if we could come up with a design. As a starting point they gave us a hand drawn floor plan for the stables and we took it from there. We developed this fully realised 3d representation including battery powered lights to bring the model to life. We also provided a sturdy travel case with customised foam inserts to protect the model in transit.

Life-size Model of 3U Cube Satellite.

We recently completed this 1:1 scale mock-up of a 3U Cube Satellite for the Glasgow Life museum. The photos don’t show the model in its fully finished state because most of the black solar cells still have a thin protective film on them. We left the film on to protect the panels while the model was assembled on site. The model was too fragile to be shipped in its “deployed” position so the main body and four solar panels had to be kept as separate components. The protective film could then be removed once the model was securely mounted. We’re hoping to get a “finished” pic from the museum once the display is finalised. We have produced numerous satellite models over the years including several variations of this design (see Industrial Models page).

Whilst the majority of the models we produce are about external appearances, occasionally we get a project like this where the main purpose is to show internal views. Often the best way to do this is to create a model with a “roof-off” view like this recently completed model showing the planned internal refurbishment of the Porter’s Lodge at St. John’s College, Oxford. We’ve shown the new proposals in full colour to differentiate them from the existing buildings which are stylized and painted white. Part of the refurbishment proposals include a new front courtyard with an arched colonnade entrance feature which is why these areas are also shown in colour. The courtyard retains all the existing trees, some of which are close to 300mm tall at 1:50 scale. We actually custom-made all the trees to reflect the shape and characteristics of the real trees.

Large sales model for lakeside housing development.

Our recently completed sales model stole the show at a waterside launch event earlier this month. At 2.6m long x 1.6m wide this very large model was the centrepiece of a 3 day event set up in a temporary marquee on site. The client had also set up a large screen with animated CGI views of the development but by all accounts the potential purchasers were drawn instantly to the model because it gave such a clear and immediate understanding of the houses, gardens and overall layout of the site. Due to its size the model was made in two halves for portability. Phase 2 of the development, shown as a separate grey area on the model, will be added at a later date. The model will eventually be the focal point of a permanent on-site marketing suite.

First project delivered after lock down.

We recently delivered this 2.5m long residential sales model back to its marketing suite in Bath after taking it away before the Covid 19 lockdown to add a new phase of detailed buildings. The project went on hold during the height of the pandemic because like many other businesses we had to close down for several weeks due to safety concerns. It was the first big project we completed after reopening the workshop and we have since completed several other smaller projects that also went on hold. You’ll note from the pics above that the model still has a large “empty” area – this is for a third phase which will be added at a later date.

Custom-built planning tool for Logistics division.

This multi-layered display is a custom-built planning tool for the Ministry of Defence Logistics team. They got in touch with a sketch design (literally a very rough sketch) and asked if it was something we could build. The idea was to create 4 vertically stacked transparent maps showing all the UK MOD bases so that the team could assess varying logistics routes by linking different depots both horizontally and vertically with colour-coded string. Our solution was this aluminium framed design that can be easily bolted together but also “flat-packs” into the white base for storage when not in use (which you can see in the inset pic above).

Mirror divided model creates eye catching optical illusion.

The client for this project, a manufacturer of industrial tarpaulins, wanted to show four “half-models” of circular fish cage products on one compact model which was creating a confusing visual combination. So we came up with the idea of placing a mirror down the centreline so that each half circular model looked whole when viewed against the mirror. You can hopefully see how well this works from the pics above.

Another high quality satellite model for the British space industry.

Completed last month, we’ve made several variations of this life-size CubeSat model for a number of different clients and we’re currently in mid-production of a further satellite model for yet another client (who saw this model and liked it). Designed for easier shipping, this model comes as four separate main components – acrylic base; tubular steel mount; main body; solar array panels – that can be easily slotted together on site. Even the aerials slot into place once the main model is assembled.
