Three industrial models for an event in Rio.

A producer of specialized equipment for deploying military boats and vehicles via parachute into hard to reach areas, the client for this project asked us to create models of three of their core products for an event in Rio De Janeiro. At 1:20 scale the models were small enough to be easily transportable (the biggest was less than 500mm long) but still needed to show a high level of detail to demonstrate the characteristics of the product. We supplied all three models with custom-made Perspex covers and sturdy, waterproof travel cases with tailored foam interiors.

New lease of life for retired housing model.

After spending several years on the sidelines in the marketing suite of a large housing development in Bath, this “retired” sales model is back in the limelight after the client asked us to mount it on a wall in the development’s on-site community centre. We made the model back in 2017 as a marketing tool for the first phase of the development but once all the plots were sold the model was put to one side having served its purpose. Normally the model would be scrapped but the client decided to donate it to the community centre as an object of local interest. It wasn’t a big job but we were happy to get involved to give our model a new lease of life rather than end its days in a skip.

“I’ve got to say you’ve done a better job of building that, than we do the real thing. Honestly, the level of detail looks amazing!” This was the client’s reaction when we sent him photos of the model – and it wasn’t even fully finished at that point. They were equally impressed when they received the finished model, so much so that a director from their US and Canada based partner company got in touch shortly afterwards to order a second model to be shipped to their US offices. At 1:10 scale the model was just under 1m long and came with a custom-built Perspex cover.

Realistically detailed farm landscape for milk producer.

This is the second 1:32 scale model we’ve produced in the last 3 months – you can see the previous project if you click on the Recent Projects tab above and scroll back to October. As you can see from the photos, this scale allows us to show a high level of realistic detail in the landscaping and the structures. It’s also useful because a lot of detailed “off-the-shelf” items such as cows and vehicles can sourced on line. This model is actually a direct physical representation of a CGI model the company had produced for a previous marketing promotion.

Our third warehouse model this year.

We seem to have found a niche for automated warehouse models as this is the third we’ve produced this year. They’re technically challenging projects due to the amount of small detail that needs to be modelled in the racking and conveyor belt systems but probably the most challenging aspect of these models is interpreting the extensive and highly detailed CAD files we have to work from. Fortunately we have a lot of experience producing complex industrial models of all descriptions so it’s become somewhat of a specialized field for us. Detailed sales model for North London residential development

Sometimes a project turns out to be much trickier than expected and this was definitely the case with this illuminated sales model for a North London residential development. Not only was it on a complex sloping site with lots of surrounding context buildings, it also had heavily articulated elevations composed of many different materials including a very specific range of metallic finishes. The client was very concerned that these finishes should be accurately represented and we spent a lot of time working with the architects creating sample swatches to make sure the colours on the model were as authentic as possible. The requirement for general illumination added further technical complexity to the project but in the end it all came together as planned and the client was delighted with the finished result. In fact we had an email from him with the following comments "We have just been to the agents office to see the model for the first time. It’s fantastic! Thank you so much for all your hard work on this project. I’m sure it will help enormously to sell the units off plan...".

Detailed marketing model for national developer

We’ve made three of these housing development models already this year and we’ve got four more in the pipeline over the next couple of months. 1:200 is an ideal scale for these types of models because it allows us to show a good level of detail but keeps the model reasonably compact, which is important if it’s going into a cramped sales cabin on site. For larger developments with over 100 plots we sometimes have drop down to 1:250 scale, just to keep the model at a manageable size.

Detailed marketing model for retirement development

The developer for this complex group of buildings was aware they needed a realistically detailed 3D model to illustrate how the individual structures formed a linked community of retirement housing. Having been impressed by the quality of work on our website they asked for our proposals and costs for the project. Our solution was this full colour 1:200 scale model which showed plenty of recognisable detail but was compact enough to fit into their sales office. When we delivered the finished model the client emailed straight away with the comments “…can I just say the model of the village looks stunning”. He also commented how much he appreciated the hard work involved in producing such a high quality model.

Detailed marketing model on complex sloping site.

This technically demanding project was one of several marketing models we have made recently for national house builder Taylor Wimpey. It was a particularly difficult project because it comprised over 150 units on a steeply sloping site. Many of the houses were split level properties and each plot required accurate modelling of retaining walls, complex access steps, and carefully designed embankments in the gardens. Even though 1:250 is a fairly small scale, if you click on the first image to enlarge it you’ll see the high level of detail we have been able to achieve.
