Ancient monument laser-cut and engraved from solid Ash wood.

This small scale, stylised architectural model was commissioned as part of a test project for a new educational play scheme for young children. The client wanted a simplified representation of this ancient monument in a pale coloured wood so we suggested laser cutting and engraving out of solid ash would be a suitable option. The main photo shows the 800mm long model photoshopped into a desert setting which is the context it will be used in. The smaller photos show the two sides of the model and a close up detail. 3 storey model helps artists plan their shows

An art gallery in London asked us to produce 10 sets of these floor plate models to help artists design upcoming shows. Each set consisted of 3 storeys and showed the circulation routes and available floor and wall space on each level so that the artist could plan the positions of paintings or other exhibits in their show. At 1:20 scale the floor plans are very large so we designed a flat-pack solution which allowed the artists to take the three floor layouts as portable kits that could be easily assembled at a later date. We created our own CAD files for all components and then laser cut the floors and walls out of 5mm acrylic. Stairwells, WCs and other facilities were indicated by laser-engraved lines on the floor plates.

Another high quality sales model for one of our regular clients.

We usually produce at least 2 sales models a year for this client who keeps coming back to us because of the reliable, high-quality service we provide and they’ve just confirmed an order for a new development. At 1:150 scale this model is approx. 1300mm long x 450mm wide which fits perfectly against a wall in a compact marketing suite. If you click on the photos to enlarge them you’ll see we can achieve a high level of realistic detail at this scale.

with tailored flight case for model on the move.

The client for this project wanted a demonstration model that could be safely transported and easily set up in potential customer’s premises. Our solution was this 1:15 scale model which was designed as a set of individual units that could be packed into a specially tailored travel case (see image above). The units are only 140mm tall but are made with realistic detail so that their function is instantly recognisable. To complete the picture we also created a “flat-pack” room setting made from white acrylic panels.

Realistically detailed model of Europe’s new space observatory

Having already made several models of Britain’s UKube satellite we were pleased to get this new commission for a model of the European space Agency’s latest spacecraft being launched in October this year. As you can see from the images, large areas of this spacecraft are composed of different coloured, highly reflective fabrics and we needed to replicate the uneven, shiny character of these materials on the model. We also had to create a representation of the optical bench (complete with concave mirrors) inside the main body of the spacecraft. It is hard to see in these photos but it is just visible through the “window” openings. Since completing the model, we’ve actually been commissioned to produce three further copies for the UK Space agency.

Two industrial models for completely different industries

It’s been a particularly busy start to the new year and amongst the smaller projects we’ve completed recently are these two industrial models, one for a Biogas boiler (at 1:15 scale) and one for a water purification system (at 1:8 scale). Both models were for use at trade shows/exhibitions in UK and abroad and were supplied with purpose-built flight cases. The Water purification model was one of a pair and actually had removable sections to show the interior workings but for confidentiality reasons we are unable to show these views. The Biogas boiler model featured white LED uplighters to highlight it within the general plant room context. Unfortunately it was only after the model had gone that we realised we didn’t have any photos with the lights on!

Conservatory Sunroom Model – Scale 1:15

Made for a company that specializes in high quality conservatories, this detailed model needed to reflect the product’s elegant design and high levels of finish (inside and out). The model’s primary purpose was to act as an eye catching display at shows and exhibitions to help attract potential customers to the company’s stand. To give it a bit of extra “sparkle” we incorporated battery powered working interior lights which you can see in one of the inset pics. As a further complication, the model also had to be made strong enough to withstand conventional courier delivery to central Scotland where the company is based. The client was really pleased with the finished model and is currently planning further models of some of their other designs.
